Prosperity Gospel

Well I was talking to a friend of mine today about the idea that if we have enough faith we can do anything. I will be rich, I will be healthy and I will be prosperous in everything I do. This whole gospel known, as the prosperity Gospel is Fallacious, it’s not out of the scripture at all.

Here is why this false idea gets under my skin.
1 This teaching it misleading believers in to thinking that the reason they are not experiencing the miracles is because their faith is not big enough. What happens if it turns out that God just said no?
2. It makes God look like a Genie, you rub God the right way and all your wishes will come true. God is not a candy Dispenser.
3. Naming and claming is putting ourselves on the same level as God, we are not God we are not even close to being God. We have no power except what comes from the Holy Spirit,
4, The only people that really become Rich with the teaching are the pastors teaching it.
5. I believe this is the most heart breaking of them all, American missionaries are taking these false ideas to other countries, and telling exceedingly poor people and making them believe if they have enough faith that they their livestock will not die, their crops will flourish, and their health increase Now, what happens when this doesn’t happen, what happens to the faith of the new and, vulnerable believer. They start down a long and slippery slope.

Here is a little scriptural meat for you to chew on:

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. - Matthew 6:19-21(ESV) I think these words of Jesus are self explanatory, We are to focus on heaven not what is here on earth.

Here is a little for the book of Timothy, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs-1 Timothy 6:7-10(ESV)

In Short, We are to look to heavenly things. Not focus on the things of this world. Our hearts should be on the giver not the gift. We are given everything we are, and not given what we are not so that Jesus, and thus God can get the glory in the end.
